Things to realize before applying

Of course nothing is perfect in this world; neither is volunteering at ACJ El Milagro. Before applying please take the following issues into consideration and think if you can come to terms with them

ACJ staff understand that for volunteers to be able to work independently and to take plenty of their own initiatives they have to be told where help is needed. But still sometimes staff fall short in giving the volunteers initial guidance. Can you stand up for yourself and ask for help, in order for you to be able to help the kids properly?
Many of the kids ACJ works with have a difficult home situation. Therefore sometimes they are (or appear to be) hard to motivate or hard to control. Are you mentally strong enough to keep on trying with patience, determination and flexibility?
It is clear now that you have to speak Spanish well enough to communicate with them when they are bored or misbehaving. Do you speak at least intermediate Spanish and/or are you ready to learn to reach this level by the time you start with the kids? - Otra Cosa can put you in touch with good teachers offering 1:1 Spanish classes at reasonable prices (15/18 Soles/hour) to our volunteers.
The kids all have school, work and family obligations to fulfill and don´t always have time to go to ACJ. Sometimes they don´t show up for a planned activity because something came up, somtimes others youi didnt expect do show up. Can you cope and improvise in situations like this?
